The end of a tenancy is when cleaning matters most. Tenants want to leave the property in the condition described on the inventory, and landlords and agents want it ready for the next occupant. A thorough, room-by-room approach makes the check-out inspection simpler for everyone.
Kitchen
Kitchens are usually the most closely inspected room.
- Clean inside and outside the oven, hob, extractor hood and filters
- Clean inside the fridge and freezer (defrosted and switched off if agreed)
- Wipe inside and outside all cupboards and drawers
- Clean sinks, taps, tiles and worktops, removing limescale and grease
- Clean the outside of appliances and mop the floor
Bathrooms
- Descale showers, screens, taps and shower heads
- Clean the bath, basin, toilet and surrounding tiles
- Clean mirrors, cabinets, extractor fans and fittings
- Mop floors and clean behind the toilet
Bedrooms and living areas
- Dust skirting boards, doors, frames, light switches and sockets
- Clean inside wardrobes and drawers
- Clean internal windows, sills and frames
- Vacuum carpets, including under beds and furniture where accessible
- Wipe radiators and remove cobwebs
Before the check-out inspection
Compare the property against the check-in inventory, remove all personal belongings and rubbish, and take dated photos of each room once cleaning is complete. Carpet cleaning may be needed if it is listed in the tenancy agreement.
